An Overview
An LCD projector will cast data or images onto a screen using LCD or Liquid Crystal Display technology. In LCD projectors the video signal is made up of three colors. These colors are green, red, and blue. Each of the three colors has its own glass panel, consisting of a layer of liquid crystals compressed by two panels of glass. When a current is applied the pixels within the crystals open and close to let the light through to form images. In LCD projector lamps the three colors pass through there own panels and then combine in a prism. The reunited light source then passes through a lens and is projected onto a screen PROS One noticeable advantage of LCD projector bulbs is that they are more light efficient. This means they can produce a brighter image while using less power. This significantly cuts down on the cost of running a HD LCD projector. In addition, wireless LCD projectors are known for their portability. Because the LCD ship that is used within the projector is so small, most LCD projector has light weight, compact designs. This makes them ideal for the presenter on the go. Another advantage of LCD projectors is their affordability. Cheap LCD printers and used LCD projectors are easy to find. The average cost of a LCD projector is $1000, which is significantly lower than its counterparts the CRT and DLP projectors. In addition LCD projector rentals are much less expensive. CONS One of the disadvantages when you buy a LCD projector is the image can appear more pixilated. This is commonly referred to as the screen door effect, because the grid of the pixels is apparent on the image. Another drawback is that the LCD panel is made up of many tiny pixels and if one of those pixels burns out the entire panel must be replaced. If it is not there will my a black spot on the screen where the pixel is dead. In addition, LCD projector bulbs must be replaced more frequently than in other types of projector. The average lifespan of an LCD bulb is only 1,500 hours. Another limitation of this unit is the high cost of LCD projector repair, maintenance, and part replacement. Also, even though these projectors are small in size, they are often bulky because of the internal components and how they are laid out. This means that while the projector may be light it may be uncomfortable to carry. |
