The Basics
The Cinego projector by Radio Shack is an innovative front projector. The Cinego D-1000 has a built in DVD player and boasts a realistic theatre experience from the comfort of your own home. It is considered an inexpensive hybrid projector at a cost of $1,299.99. The Cinego front projector has a variety of innovative features, but has several drawbacks as well.
Advantages
- One of the most obvious advantages of the Cinego lamp projector is its cost. It is significantly less expensive than comparable projectors. At a retail price of $1299.99 this projector is a steal. For that price you get the DLP projector itself, a DVD player, a remote control, and two speakers.
- The Cinego D-1000 projector has a sleek black with silver accent design. Though the knobs seem a little flimsy, overall the style and shape of the unit is heads and tails above other boxy looking projectors.
- The Cinego projector replacement lamps have a resolution of 854 by 480. This is a perfect resolution to view standard DVDs, and high definition television. In addition, these projectors have aspect ratios of both 16:9 and 4:3.
- The D-1000 also has plenty of connectivity options. It comes with four mini jacks, including one subwoofer output, one stereo audio output, one stereo audio input, and one coaxial digital audio output. It also comes with composite video cables, an s-video cable, and an RCA audio cable.
- Another advantage is the easy set up process. It is designed to sit on a stand and literally only needs to be plugged in to be used.
Disadvantages
- One complaint about the Cinego D-1000 is that it has a noisy cooling fan. In addition the general audio quality of the unit is not impressive. The speakers muddy the mid an high audio, and the low levels are drowned out by the noise of the fan.
- Another disadvantage of the Cinego D-1000 is that it has a screen door effect. Which means you can see a grid structure of where the pixels are.
- The color temperature of this projector is extremely blue, and is difficult to calibrate. In addition, the brightest part of the image is often difficult to see, a phenomenon referred to as white crush. The black levels are also poor.
- The remote control that comes with the unit is also not a good match. For a multi purpose unit the small credit card size remote is inadequate.
- Another disadvantage is the keystone correction in this projector is limited to vertical adjustments.
